ICR and ICC were founded by Glenn Boornazian in 1987. They constitute a multi-disciplinary group offering a broad range of conservation services for historic buildings and monuments. Our architectural conservators, conservation scientists and architects, conservation crafts people and construction executives possess a remarkable array of knowledge and experience with historic materials, structures and technologies. Together the firms offer a range of design-build services, including: laboratory and in-situ testing; development of conservation specifications; master planning; implementation of mock-ups, probes and conservation work; conditions surveys, research and documentation; development of long-term maintenance programs; and site supervision during implementation. ICC also provides general contracting, specialized preservation and conservation contracting, and construction management services.

Our integration of conservation consulting and craft makes us unique, and affords us insight into both disciplines. As conservators with hands-on practical experience, we are able to make recommendations that are not simply ├Čappropriate├«, but are based on an intimate knowledge of practical constraints. As conservation contractors who understand conservation science, historic preservation theory, and the aging of historic materials, we are able to efficiently implement complex technical procedures and deal appropriately with anomalies as they arise. We are a group of professionals whose efforts ensure that results of the highest caliber are effectively achieved.

Three principles guide our approach to the restoration and conservation of historic structures:

  • to retain original materials where possible;
  • to develop and/or execute conservation programs which are physically and visually compatible with the historic building fabric; and
  • to respect the original aesthetic intentions of the designer and/or craftspeople.

Our expertise in all facets of architectural conservation and historic preservation enables us to examine existing conditions, identify problems and their causes, and develop prioritized conservation recommendations. ICR conducts conditions assessments, provides detailed documentation, and performs materials testing and analysis in the laboratory and in the field. ICR can also conduct hands-on repairs on highly specialized projects, write specifications and provide training for contractor implementation of conservation crafts, and provide project management and construction administration services.
