Site Testing and Mock Ups for Interior Materials

ICR conducted several cleaning and adhesive removal tests on interior tile and marble and laboratory analyses of historic grout and paint samples. To assist with implementation, ICR and ICC conducted several mock ups of tile repairs at various architectural details within the curvilinear interior. This allowed for better quality control.

Site Testing and Mock Ups for Interior Materials

    • • Cleaning and adhesive removal on tile and marble
    • • In situ mock ups for various tile repairs
    • • Grout analysis
    • • Paint analysis

ICR conducted several in situ interior cleaning and adhesive removal tests on the tile, marble, and windows at the TWA Terminal at JFK Airport to determine the most effective yet compatible materials and methods for implementation. Many construction details in the curvilinear interior were damaged so numerous mock ups were done by ICR and ICC to determine the appropriate approach to repair. These included flat surfaces, curved corners, and stair repairs. Grout analysis was conducted in the laboratory to determine the basic composition of the original grout for product specification.

A paint analysis of the interior was also conducted after sampling several areas within the terminal. A microscopic investigation was done on the paint stratigraphy to determine the original finish color.
